Install Guide for ClockworkMod Recovery On G1 (unthorough)

image via Jaxov

This guide will assume that you have only a basic understanding of how to modify your G1. If you encounter any unfamiliar terms, see the article glossary at the end of this article.

Requirements

Steps
  1. From the Market app, search and install the free app Rom Manager by ClockwordMod.
  2. After the install, open Rom Manager.
    1. If there is a disclaimer, read the information and press ok.
    2. If there is a new features notice after that, read the information if you want and then press ok.
  3. Under the first subsection named Recovery, hit Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
  4. Select HTC Dream (GSM).
    1. If SuperUser Request will pop up, asking you to give permission to the application to modify your phone. Select, Allow.
  5. The application should take you through the rest of the process, rebooting your G1 if necessary*.

Article Glossary
  • rooted - rooting is to phones running the Android mobile platform what jail breaking is to the iPhone. it unlocks the phone from the phone maker and the cell phone company, so that you can install unofficial updates, software and even do recoding.
  • Recovery - Recovery is a software of sorts, that starts before the actual Android operating system. It gives directions to to Android as how to start up.
  • HTC Dream (GSM) - HTC Dream is another name for the G1. GSM is the kind of network the phone is able to operate on.

*Since my phone already had ClockworkMod Recovery on my G1, it didn't take me through the entire process again. It should be pretty self explanatory from this point on but if I come across the information (maybe someone leave it in a comment?), I will edit this article to be more thorough.

  2. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation
but I find this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I'll try to get the hang of it!
